Stakes Day festivities began many years ago with humble beginnings. One VRC membership, a handful of mates, a single car park in The Nursery, a few camp chairs, and an esky full of Carltons..

  Between laughs and drinks, Jim and Alex began dreaming of something greater.  What started as a casual day at the races soon evolved; camp chairs became tables and umbrellas. One site became two, two became three… 
 

Now, in 2026, we proudly host a full-scale production across five Nursery Sites. This year’s edition features a sold-out marquee for 120 guests, complete with bartenders, wait staff, and an exceptional spread of food and drinks. 

Last year Flemington was absolutely hammered by a storm but our marquee stood tall.
While lesser sites may have surrendered to the elements, ours held the line. 

We intend to raise the bar yet again, with an extraordinary afternoon of exceptional hospitality, excessive indulgence and savoir-faire.  A level of grandeur entirely disproportionate to our humble beginnings, but seemingly appropriate for what has now become the Premier Site of the Nursery at Flemington.
